When a tooth is chipped, the enamel layer can be compromised in a variety of ways. If the damage alters the biting surface, it can cause discomfort when chewing. A tooth that’s a visible part of your smile can also alter your appearance.

If you put off dental care at A Plus Smiles’s Edinburg, Texas clinic, the chipped enamel could harbor bacterial deposits and even come to foster tooth decay. Since the tooth was already compromised, the bacterial presence could quickly cause harm to the critical interior structures of the tooth.

It might be possible for our dentists to repair a small chip, in a non-critical location with a basic amalgam or composite resin filling. If one or more of the teeth in your smile have chips, we might recommend having porcelain dental veneers installed over the face of each tooth.

If a chip is large or it has damaged the occlusal biting surface, we might recommend restoring the tooth enamel with a crown made from either porcelain, a metal alloy, or gold. This will completely replace the original tooth enamel layer to restore the full strength of the tooth.

If you live in the Edinburg, Texas area and you have suffered a chipped or fractured tooth, you should call 956-627-3446 to seek treatment at A Plus Smiles’s clinic.
